Frank Stella The Indian Birds exhibition at the Mnuchin Gallery.Â
The series called Indian Birds often being named as a transition from painting to sculpture. Stella discussed this series of monumental works as a painting rather than a sculpture: "Assemblage of parts is what makes it a painting."Â
Stella went to India in 1977 and created the series upon his return to the United, naming the work after the birds he saw.Â
Â
The work shares the pure joy and freedom of imagination, vibrant, radiant colors, and the feeling of dynamism with the viewer. Everything is in the movement. It is playful and energetic. The series is compared to the Baroque style in Art. In Stella's joyful work, everything is in motion, expanding the boundaries between the sculpture and the painting, the light and shadow, stillness and movement.Â
Â
The exhibition is on view till December at the Mnuchin
Gallery in New York.Â
